This edition comprises the opinions and reviews of an independent core panel of local and international wine experts, with the support of the Penfolds winemaking team, integrated into a single Penfolds voice established through eight editions of The Rewards of Patience.
Andrew Caillard MW Australia
Andrew Caillard, Master of Wine, is a founder of Australian wine auction house Langton s, wine critic and author of The Rewards of Patience. See About the Author, page 293.
Fongyee Walker MW China
Fongyee Walker is a Master of Wine, international wine show judge, entrepreneur, TV personality and wine consultant. She is the co-founder of Dragon Phoenix Consulting, a leading Wine and Spirit Education Trust provider in China. She is also a contributor to English and Chinese language publications Decanter, the World of Fine Wine and Caijing Ribao. She played a key role in the award-winning documentary film Red Obsession.
James Halliday AM Australia
James Halliday is the doyen of Australian wine writers and international emeritus wine show judge. He is the author of James Halliday s Wine Companion and the weekly columnist for the national newspaper The Australian. He is a contributor to the Oxford Companion of Wine and has written more than 40 wine books over his long and distinguished career. He was appointed Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2010.
Josh Raynolds United States
Josh Raynolds is an American wine critic, international wine show judge, presenter and former wine trade specialist. He is an editor of Antonio Galloni s Vinous, one of the world s most influential online fine wine guides, and specialises in the wines of Australia, Spain, Chile, the Rhône Valley, Oregon and other regional wines of France and the United States. He has reviewed wines for other publications including the US magazine Wine and Spirits.
Dr Neil Beckett, PhD United Kingdom
Dr Neil Beckett is an academic in ancient languages, historian, wine show judge and leading UK wine journalist. He is the prize-winning editor of the UK s prestigious World of Fine Wine, former editor of Harpers and general editor of Hachette s 1001 Wines You Must Try Before You Die. He is also a member of the influential wine forum Grand Jury Européen.
Nick Ryan Australia
Nick Ryan is a wine and drinks journalist for national newspaper The Australian and a contr butor to Gourmet Traveller Wine and GQ magazines. He is an international wine show judge, presenter, wine industry mentor and social commentator with Adelaide s Sunday Mail. He is also a graduate of the prestigious Len Evans Tutorial and an Australian Wine Communicator Award co-winner (2019).
Peter Gago AC Australia
Peter Gago is Penfolds Chief Winemaker, only the third since Max Schubert was first appointed in 1948. He is the custodian of Grange and chairman of The Rewards of Patience panel. In 2017 he was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) and in 2018 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of South of Australia in recognition of his outstanding service to the Australian wine industry.
