Medium crimson. Attractive dried rose and leafy, soy and apricot aromas with smoky notes. A well-concentrated wine with dried roses, raspberry, soy and dried apricot flavours. Supple, sweet and lacy tannins and underlying roasted walnut notes. Finishes chalky firm with al dente notes. Very expressive wine at its peak of development with sweet fruit still giving buoyancy and depth.

Floral, cherry spice aromas with tobacco leaf notes, elegantly structured palate with solid tannin grip. (JR)

Partially dried darker fruits with dry herb, tamarind, leather, liquorice notes. A fine, lithe frame. Svelte and savoury wine. (NR)

Medium-deep crimson. Fresh shellac, tobacco leaf, blackberry and dark chocolate aromas and flavours with aniseed notes. Fully developed palate with attractive mid-palate richness, chocolaty fine tannins and mineral length. Some bottles are over developed.

1996 «««« Drink now to soon.

Medium crimson. Walnut, panforte, chocolate and wax polish aromas with marzipan notes. Densely concentrated wine with developed walnut, espresso and demi-glace flavours, developed dark fruit notes, fine lacy but slightly bitter tannins, underlying tobacco and pronounced long fresh acidity. Sinewy dry finish.

Interesting complex nose with hints of soy sauce, camphor and Chinese medicine. A very savoury and overdeveloped palate. (FW)

1997 ««« Faded. Past.

Medium-deep crimson. The wine is over developed and drying out with complex tarry tobacco characters, bitter leafy tannins and pronounced acidity.

1998 ««««« Drink now to 2032.

Medium-deep crimson. Red cherry, redcurrant and tobacco leaf aromas with cassis and mocha notes. A fresh and concentrated wine with deep-set red cherry, redcurrant and leafy flavours, tobacco and dried herb notes and fine plentiful lacy dry tannins. Finishes slinky and long. An attractive and aged wine with plenty of mid-palate density, vigour and richness. Will keep going for a while longer.

A distinguished wine with varietal fruit flavours evenly spread across a supple palate. (JH)

Impressively scented, powerful and darkly fruited wine with forest floor, sandalwood notes and fine granular but unresolved tannins ensuring many more years. (NB)

1999 ««« Drink now to 2028.

Medium-deep crimson. Developed leafy tobacco and coffee aromas with underlying raspberry and mulberry notes. A richly flavoured wine with mulberry and tobacco leaf flavours, fine-plentiful chalky tannins and well-integrated acidity. A firm Claret style at the peak of its development but should hold.

Generous energetic wine with plenty of blue fruits, boysenberry and plum. Smooth with sweet juicy flavours and supple tannins. (JR)

Cocoa and plum with some black fruit sweetness but not fully delivered. A fraction reserved. (NR)
