Medium-deep crimson. Intense blackberry, dark cherry, black olive and roasted walnut and graphite notes. Deep-set roasted blackberry, bitumen and graphite flavours, fine gritty tannins and marked acidity. Brambly dry finish. Could come out of its shell.
Seriously good wine with vibrantly fresh fruit. (JH)
Brambly berries and brick dust with some cola/ leather notes. Dark fruits just starting to dry out a little. Tight tannins keep the wine in shape. (NR)

Quite tannic and unyielding. The fruit has lost exuberance and freshness.
2008 ««««« Drink now to 2032.
Medium-deep crimson. Fresh dark cherry and mulberry aromas with roasted walnut notes. Generous supple and inky with deep-set ripe blackberry and mulberry fruits, supple chocolaty tannins, lovely mid-palate volume and integrated acidity. Finishes firm and long with gorgeous dark fruits and persistent tannin plume. Probably a mid-term cellaring prospect.
An exceptional vintage showing impressive fruit purity and potency, fine layered silken textures, gentle richness of flavour and length. (NB)
Vibrant and heady plum fruit with some leather and tobacco flavours and very smooth integrated tannins. (FW)
2009 «««« Drink now to 2028.
Medium-deep crimson. Black cherry and herb garden aromas with aniseed notes. Generously concentrated with mulberry and black cherry fruits, supple fine/lacy textures, attractive mid-palate richness and long fresh acidity. Builds up sappy firm at the finish.
Opulent, rich and freshly balanced with dark fruits, forest floor, slightly spicy aromas and gentle persistent tannins. Not at all heavy in style. (NB)
Fragrant and richly fruited with bramble, plum, panforte, dark chocolate and fig. Supple and fleshy with finely buffed tannins. (NR)

Medium-deep crimson. Intense blackberry, mulberry and dark chocolate aromas with espresso notes. Classical modern Penfolds-style with expressive blackberry pastille, herb garden and liquorice flavours, fine loose-knit persistent ripe tannins and underlying savoury notes. Finishes chalky firm with fresh long acidity. Packed tight but not bulging at the seams.
Still youthful with layers of black and purple fruits; demands time. (JH)
Brooding and dark fruited with plenty of crushed blackberries. Strong and structured with coating tannins and excellent length of flavour. (FW)
2011 «« Drink now.
Quite developed with dark berry and rusty aromas and herbal notes. Still quite velvety in texture but the wine lacks the richness and density to go the distance.
1999 «««« Drink now to 2028.
Medium-deep crimson. Intense praline, liquorice and cherry cake aromas with walnut notes. Generously concentrated and plush with dark cherry, walnut and liquorice flavours, liqueur-like notes, fine supple velvety textures, saline/oyster shell notes and integrated acidity. Finishes walnutty and firm.
Mature but has plenty of richness and fruit balance to last. (JH)
Autumnal/dried leaves with some meaty savoury complexity. Surprisingly plush with some dark fruit richness but still firm and classically proportioned. (NB)

Not a great vintage for Bin 28 Shiraz. Quite herbal with red fruits and fine chalky textures. Holding but not a wine to keep.
2001 ««« Drink now.
Muscular wine with attractive dark fruits but pronounced tannins.
2002 ««««« Drink now to 2040.
Medium-deep crimson. Intense dark cherry, dark chocolate and espresso aromas with herb garden notes. Densely packed with dark cherry and blackberry, fine persistent chocolaty textures, espresso/tobacco notes and integrated acidity. Smooth and velvety yet builds up vigour and torque at the finish. Layered and multifaceted.
Has entered a very long plateau of quality. (JH)
Plenty of plums, dried mulberries and spice with notes of cedar and sweet tobacco. A pleasing combination of sweet fruit and tertiary notes of leather and cedar on the palate. Tannins are more coating than expected. Drinking very well now. (FW)
2003 «« Drink now to past.
Soupy, dense and muscular. Has always been a challenging vintage to cellar.
2004 ««««« Drink now.
Still holding with attractive dark chocolate, dark berry and herb characters and richness of flavour.
2005 ««« Drink now.
Redcurrant, dark berry fruits and chocolaty-firm textures. Not as rich and persistent as it used to be, but still holding.
