FATHER GRAND TAWNY ««««« Medium-brick amber. Fresh marmalade, roasted nut and panforte aromas with lifted brandy notes. Lovely supple-sweet marmalade and panforte flavours, fine laced texture, roasted walnut, liquorice and amaro flavours. Superb mid-palate viscosity with fresh aniseed and integrated spirit. An impressive and balanced wine.
Luscious round and smooth with toffee, maple, honey and cherry liqueur aromas and a lovely richness of flavour and length. (JR)
Seductive and expansive with glorious enveloping richness, excellent fruit definition and gentle warmth. A lovely balance without any heat or cloying flavours. (NB)
As its name implies, Father Grand Tawny was introduced to connect the step levels of quality in the Penfolds hierarchy of aged tawnies. With a minimum average blended age of 10 years to achieve its Grand Tawny classification, it not only replaced Bluestone Tawny, but offered collectors a more profound aged tawny experience. The extra maturation of individual varietal components in primarily seasoned oak hogsheads, sometimes as old as 70 years, combined with traditional Penfolds craftsmanship results in a remarkably smooth, richly flavoured and complex Grand Tawny.
Father Grand Tawny is the link
between the rich, round and
fruit-driven Club and Club Reserve
styles and the intense complex
and aged style of Grandfather and
