Medium-deep crimson. Intense dark cherry, roasted walnut and sandalwood aromas with cocoa notes. A richly concentrated wine with apricot, raspberry and dark cherry flavours, fine lacy textures and attractive mid-palate suppleness. Firm and chalky al dente finish with chinotto notes. Really lovely wine with elegance, suppleness and developed sweet fruit.
Opulent and creamy with kirsch, raspberry liqueur, potpourri and exotic spices, fine plentiful tannins and resonating floral notes. A powerful wine with underlying delicacy. (JR)
Dried cherries with clove, cedar and pencil shavings. Modulated power on the palate with a core of sweet red fruit, spice, cigar box and coating tannin finesse. (FW)

Medium-deep brick crimson. Lovely developed red cherry, redcurrant, sweet chinotto, roasted walnut and rose garden aromas. Inky sweet wine with evolved red cherry, mulberry, chinotto, sweet leather and dried herb flavours. Fine loose-knit and chalky dry tannins with a marked but flowing acidity. Still holding together really well.
Beautifully fragrant with forest berries and baking spices, hints of cola and chocolate. Gentle bouncy suppleness on the palate with dusty tannins and quietly elegant length. (NR)
Refined and layered with sweet spice, mahogany wood and dried cherries. Fine-grained with a core of red cherries and waxy balsamic bayberry notes. (FW)
1992 «« Drink now to past.
Still holding but the tannins are vigorous and the acidity dominates. Not at its best.
1993 «« Best to drink now.
Never a great St Henri vintage although some bottles are still holding up.
1994 ««««« Drink now to 2035.
Medium-deep brick crimson. Fresh espresso coffee and slightly earthy black cherry aromas with herb and chinotto notes. A well-developed wine with earthy chinotto/cola, dried herb, dark chocolate and polished leather flavours, fine loose-knit chalky but sinuous tannins. Finishes firm, apricotty and minerally. A classic St Henri vintage. Bottles labelled with Shiraz-Cabernet rather than Claret for the first time.
Richly silky and balanced but surprisingly tannic at the finish. (NB)
Floral herb, dried cherry and earthy aromas with potpourri, orange zest and aniseed characters. Well-focussed palate with cassis, bitter chocolate flavours, fine tannins and spicy drive. (JR)
1995 ««« Best to drink soon.
A moderate vintage with dark berry, tobacco and mint notes and fine chalky textured tannins.

Medium-deep crimson. Expressive redcurrant, raspberry and herb garden aromas with leaf and dark chocolate notes. High-tensile wine with bright redcurrant, raspberry and roasted walnut flavours and fine sinewy dry tannins. Builds up very firm and tight at the finish with marked acidity. Might come around.
Red and dark berry fruits with grippy, chunky tannins and sharp acidity. A touch sweet and sour. (NR)
High toned wine with cocoa powder, slight leather, clove and earthiness. A very fine lacy firm tannin structure. I wonder how long it will last? (FW)
1997 ««« Drink soon.
Has performed well at previous ROP tastings, but the tannins are now beginning to outweigh the fruit.

Rich, ripe and expressive with dark cherry, blackberry and mulberry fruits, fine loose-knit chocolaty tannins, lovely fresh walnut, waxy polish and liquorice complexity and integrated juicy acidity. Firm, yet generous and long. An outstanding vintage.
Exotic spices, cherry stone, succulent herbs and long spicy fine-grained tannins. Has plenty of heft and energy. (JR)
Plentiful vibrant red cherries, goji, bayberry fruits with cocoa powder, spice notes. Distinctly sweet on the palate with grippy fine-grained tannins and an elegant linear finish. (FW)
1999 «««« Drink now to 2035.
Medium-deep crimson. Herb garden, meaty and dark chocolate aromas with red and black fruit notes. Lovely meaty, raspberry, redcurrant, mocha, liquorice and walnut notes with sturdy chewy tannins and lively but long acidity. Firm walnut and gravelly finish. Alcohol kicks out at the finish. A strong muscular frame but the fruit is generous and supple.
Abundant mixed red and black fruits with gentle spice complexity. Round and sweet at first but the tannins are bold and drying. Quite a lot of heat at the finish. (NB)
A nicely weighted wine with attractive fruit richness, life and length. (JH)
2000 «« Drink now.
A light year for St Henri and although it s showing some attractive red berry fruit and black truffle notes, the wine lacks the richness and torque for long-term aging.
2001 ««« Drink now to 2028.
Medium-deep crimson. Cherry liqueur, cranberry and raspberry aromas with cola, amaro and herb garden notes. Well-concentrated cranberry, cherry liqueur and redcurrant fruits with fine bitter dry sinewy tannins. Attractive mid-palate richness and volume. Finishes chocolaty dry with inky notes. A disjointed wine with all the elements competing.
Broad and developed with red fruits, dried plum/prune flavours and roasted notes. Not as fresh or vibrant as expected. (JR)
An overdeveloped wine lacking freshness. (FW)
