Pure ripe varietal expression and the Penfolds House Style, rather than regional definition, are features of this Cellar Reserve cabernet sauvignon and hence only produced in optimum vintages.
2005 BAROSSA VALLEY «««« Drink now to 2030.
Deep crimson. Lovely blackcurrant pastille, mulberry and capsicum aromas with hint of sage. Ripe and generous blackcurrant and mulberry fruits, supple fine/grainy textures, lovely mocha/vanilla oak complexity and integrated acidity. Finishes long and sweet. An exaggerated style with lovely fruit density and presence.
A lovely inviting bouquet with pure ripe cassis aromas and some vegetal notes. Elegant and finely granular, almost gritty on the palate. Still a long way to go. (NB)
Dried cherry and roasted tobacco aromas, smoky oak notes, chewy tannins and plenty of minerality. (JR)
2006 BAROSSA VALLEY ««««« Drink now to 2032.
Deep crimson. Intense dark chocolate, blackcurrant and leafy cedar aromas with mocha and vanilla notes. A fresh and concentrated wine with deep-set blackcurrant, leaf and mocha flavours, attractive inky complexity and underlying cedar/herb garden notes. Chalky satin-like finish with an inky plume.
Gorgeous floral, blue fruit, cassis and boysenberry aromas and flavours and lovely sappy energy. The tannins steadily unfold in the glass. (JR)
Prune and graphite with a bit of tobacco still lots of grippy tannins on the finish. (FW)
