PENFOLDS g4 2002/2004/ 2008/2016 ««««« Drink 2025 to 2060+.
Four exceptional Grange vintages all connected to each other through combined oak maturation 2002, 2004, 2008 and 2016. A unique experience of layered complexity and richness. Comprising 100 percent Grange DNA, Penfolds g4 has been expertly blended to fully animate and integrate the strengths of each Grange vintage. Peter Gago s limited release multi-vintage Grange takes Max Schubert s multi-regional masterpiece, where the sum is greater than the whole, to a new imaginative level.
Deep crimson. Intense elderberry, blackberry, ginger and roasted walnut/ chestnut/vanilla mocha aromas. Richly concentrated and expansive with dense blackberry, black cherry and bramble flavours, ginger, vanilla and grilled nut complexity and fresh-integrated acidity. Finishes firm and solid with liquorice and dark chocolate notes. Fresh and juicy with all the elements still unsprung, despite the near two-decade maturation period of the oldest vintage. This is Penfolds Grange through the prism of a time machine. Will last and last. Received 100 points from James Suckling and London s World of Fine Wine magazine.
A rosebud with many petals. Intense, focussed and richly layered with very refined granular tannins and integrated new oak. Elemental and unknitted but should come together with further age. (NB)
Softer and silkier than g3, reflecting the relative maturity of its components. (NR)
