KOONUNGA HILL
For many people, the Penfolds experience begins with Koonunga Hill. This entry-level range has established a worldwide reputation for value, quality and consistency.
The Koonunga Hill Vineyard lies at the northern edge of the Barossa Valley. It was established in 1973 and was the original source for the first vintages of Koonunga Hill, however demand for these medium- to full-bodied reds was so high Penfolds began sourcing fruit from further afield in South Australia. Soon after Koonunga Hill became a trademark.
The Koonunga Hill range is all about freshness, generosity of flavour, richness and vivacity of fruit. They are affordable and great every day drinking styles that reflect Penfolds outstanding red and white winemaking skills. The fruit is drawn from multiple sources and can include parcels destined for the Bin range and above.
Although made for early drinking, Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet is given meticulous attention by the Penfolds winemaking team, and in great years like 1976, 1986, 1990 and 1996, the wines can show remarkable resilience.
