Although renowned for our red wines, Penfolds boasts a storied history in white winemaking dating back to 1890. Today, we honour this legacy through our collection of modern Australian white wines, each crafted with our enduring commitment to quality and innovation.
For much of our history, our white wines played a supporting role until the groundbreaking ‘White Grange’ project of the 1990s birthed our flagship Yattarna Chardonnay. A little-known fact is that our white wine traditions run deeper with our founder, Mary Penfold, who was awarded ‘Best White Wine of Light Character’ at the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Show in Adelaide in 1890. By 1894, Penfolds ‘Chablis’ was considered one of the best dry white wines in Australia. Fast forward to today, and our highly anticipated 2021 Yattarna Chardonnay has been awarded a perfect 100 points by Andrew Caillard MW.
