Penfolds Max’s range showcases wines that are contemporary, expressive, and vibrant upon release. The range pays homage to Penfolds first Chief Winemaker, Max Schubert. It is designed to embody his philosophy, what he stood for, and his immeasurable influence on the Penfolds House Style – Penfolds time-honoured tradition of sourcing the best fruit from the best regions to suit the wine style. The Max’s range celebrates Max’s constant pursuit of excellence.
First released in 2013, the range comprises pinot noir, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, shiraz cabernet and chardonnay. Each wine is approachable in their youth but not without the assurance of more to come.
Penfolds Max’s wines are immediately approachable upon release, with bright fruit-forward flavours that attest to our pursuit of excellence. Penfolds Max’s are versatile, with the ability to pair well with any occasion or meal. They will also continue to reveal more of their personality with short to medium term cellaring.
Our Max’s range of wines were created as a tribute to Max Schubert, a legend in Penfolds history and former Chief Winemaker from 1948-1975.
Max’s most lauded achievement was the creation of Grange. Following his visit to Bordeaux, Max returned to Australia determined to craft a dry red wine capable of staying alive for a minimum of 20 years. His fortitude not only resulted in one of Australia’s most iconic and recognised red wines, but also a stable of premium wines that continue today including Bin 389, Bin 28 and Bin 128.
