Introducing Grange by NIGO, our first-ever design takeover of our flagship wine by Human Made Creative Director in our 180th anniversary year. Inspired by NIGO’s visit to Penfolds Magill Estate Winery, he has re-imagined the packaging design of Grange for this one-off series.
The Grange by NIGO release includes collectable 750ml (1,500 available) and 1.5L (150 available) gift boxes to house our 2019 Grange. Each box includes a bandana and bottle neck tag designed by NIGO, plus an authenticity certificate.
NIGO's distinctive style takes centre stage. Paying tribute to Grange, the packaging features a bold, vibrant grape graphic and a reimagined Penfolds logo, presented in the iconic Human Made typography.
Together with the Grange by NIGO limited edition pack, NIGO has designed a silk rug for this series. With only 25 rugs available globally, the design heroes a silk dyed purple grape design to mirror that of the wine’s gift box.
I’VE BEEN A COLLECTOR OF GRANGE FOR MANY YEARS, BUT IT WASN’T UNTIL I VISITED PENFOLDS MAGILL ESTATE THAT I TRULY UNDERSTOOD THE CRAFTSMANSHIP AND HISTORY BEHIND THE WINE. IT WAS AN HONOUR TO BE THE FIRST PERSON TO COLLABORATE ON A DESIGN FOR GRANGE, ESPECIALLY AS THE BRAND CELEBRATES ITS 180TH ANNIVERSARY.
Penfolds has partnered with NIGO for the first ever design takeover of our flagship wine, Grange. For over thirty years, NIGO has been at the forefront of culture, establishing himself as a global icon and cultural pioneer. As the Creative Director of Human Made and Artistic Director of KENZO, NIGO is known for his innovative and future thinking vision.
Established by NIGO in 2010, Human Made is a Tokyo-based lifestyle brand with the concept of “the future is in the past”. The brand draws inspiration from a diverse mix of styles and vintage items, which embody the atmosphere of times past while exploring bold ideas. Human Made aspires to be a focal point for the culture, creativity and ideas that power the world.
NIGO’s innovative, future thinking vision and values align with Penfolds philosophies, which have been anchored by curiosity, innovation, and a pioneering spirit for 180 years. NIGO has always loved and enjoyed wine, and Penfolds has always been one of his favourites. His creative partnership with Penfolds is a dream project for which he says he is grateful for the opportunity.
NIGO led the creative vision for the global release of One by Penfolds – a range of wines celebrating ‘oneness’. Using his signature style, NIGO designed four animal motifs that feature on the wine labels – a crocodile, rooster, panda and bear. The designs represent the four winemaking regions where One by Penfolds wines are sourced – Australia, France, China and America, respectively.
