Our vineyards cover a number of unique climates and soil profiles, each producing the finest varietals particular to their region.
There is a Penfolds wine for every occasion; an elegant chardonnay to share with friends or a rich shiraz to celebrate a milestone.
No grape is more synonymous with the pioneering spirit of Australian winemaking than that of shiraz. Our original Magill Estate winery was originally planted with parcels of Shiraz, and the Barossa Valley is home to many grapes that go into the creation of our flagship wines, including; Grange, RWT Bin 798 and St Henri.
Cabernet Sauvignon holds a long heritage in Australia, in fact Penfolds own Block 42 in the Barossa Valley is thought to be the oldest continuously producing Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the world. Our cabernet sourcing now spans two hemispheres with releases from South Australia, California and France.
Penfolds is at the forefront of crafting magnificent contemporary expressions of pinot noir guided by ingenuity and research in clone performance in our vineyards. We source Pinot Noir from multiple cool-climate regions across Australia, including Tasmania, the Adelaide Hills and Henty in Victoria.
The quintessential Australian blend. The structure of cabernet meets the richness of shiraz. A style Penfolds has made famous over decades with flagship wines, including; Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz and Superblend.
For over 170 years, multi-varietal blending has underpinned the Penfolds winemaking philosophy. Crafted to a house style, some of our most celebrated wines are multi-varietal blends, including Grange and Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz.
Penfolds continue to lead the charge on the evolution of Australia’s most revered white wine, with a range of cool-climate styles from elegant and expressive to rich and full flavoured.
Penfolds has long been a champion of high-quality, cool-climate riesling with fruit sourced predominately from Eden Valley, Clare Valley and Adelaide Hills in South Australia.
From Sauvignon Blanc to Viognier to Traminer and Fiano, through our Cellar Reserve range, the Penfolds winemaking team explore different varietals and winemaking techniques. Expanding the parameters of what it is to be a Penfolds wine.
We have re-ignited our love affair with France, a special place for Penfolds, where Max Schubert was first inspired to create Grange. Since 2019, we have partnered with Champagne House Thiénot for our limited release champagnes, including; a vintage Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs, and a non-vintage Champagne Rosé.
Penfolds rosé was born out of a pursuit of winemaking excellence whilst maintaining all the hallmarks of the style’s approachability and bright youth.
Penfolds has a long tradition of fortified wine production, dating back to 1844. Many of these beautifully concentrated and complex wines are now living history, with material stretching back decades.
