The Penfolds Ampoule Project is a collaboration of designer-maker Hendrik Forster, furniture craftsman Andrew Bartlett, glass artist Nick Mount and scientific glassblower Ray Leake. At its core is the Kalimna Vineyard’s celebrated Block 42. The 2004 vintage resulted in beautifully aromatic, perfectly balanced and ripe Cabernet Sauvignon from Block 42, Kalimna Vineyard.
Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignons has been an important fragment of the Penfolds story since the first vintage in 1953. They are magical wines, steeped in Barossa Valley heritage. The next release will be dependent on ideal weather conditions and the right parcels of fruit.
Bin 707 is a true Cabernet Sauvignon representation of the Penfolds ‘House Style’. First vintaged in 1964, the wine was not made from 1970 to 1975 (when fruit was directed to other wines) nor in 1981, 1995, 2000, 2003 or 2011 (when fruit of the required style was not available).
Launched with the 1990 vintage in 1993, Bin 407 was developed in response to the increasing availability of high quality Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. Inspired by Bin 707, Bin 407 offers varietal definition and approachability, yet with structure and depth of flavour.
First vintaged in 2012 at the Penfolds Nuriootpa winery, Bin 9 is a multi-regional, contemporary expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. Grapes are sourced from vineyards across South Australia with a significant portion from the ancient soils of McLaren Vale. The 2015 vintage was last vintage to be released.
Sourced from select parcels of Barossa Valley fruit, including Block 42 and Block 41 cabernet sauvignon. Typically it is opulent in structure with ripe cassis, dark chocolate aromas, chocolatey tannins and underlying savoury new oak. The wines, vinified using classic Penfolds techniques, have a superb lasting quality. The wine was first made in 2005, with subsequent releases in 2006, 2008 & 2010.
First vintaged in 2013, Max’s Cabernet Sauvignon displays the Penfolds ‘stamp’ inspired by Max Schubert. This wine has the hallmarks of varietally pure cabernet sauvignon.
