Located just a twenty-minute drive from Adelaide CBD, the Adelaide Hills wine region is a relatively large area that spans the Mt. Lofty ranges between McLaren Vale and Eden Valley. It is the coolest and most elevated wine region in South Australia and is renowned for producing exceptional cool-climate varieties such as chardonnay, pinot noir, shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot.
The high altitude and cool climate of Adelaide Hills vineyards are renowned for producing elegant and fruit-forward expressions. Grapes ripen slowly, retaining acidity and preserving aromatics and flavours, producing balanced, elegant wines with fruit-forward characteristics. Our Adelaide Hills vineyards contribute fruit to our award-winning Reserve Bin A Chardonnay and Cellar Reserve range.
While much of the fruit used in crafting our white wines originates from vineyards in the Adelaide Hills wine region, these vineyards remain closed to the public. Nevertheless, our Magill Estate Cellar Door, the home of Penfolds, stands near the Adelaide Hills and offers an expansive wine experience. Here, visitors can enjoy tastings, immersive tours, dining options and other iconic Penfolds experiences.
