A contemporary cabernet, born from the ancient terra rossa soils of Coonawarra. Only released in exceptional vintages.
In 2008, we introduced a distinctive addition to our collection, a stablemate to the esteemed multi-regional Bin 707. Bin 169 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon is a single-regional style crafted using fruit from the finest low-yielding blocks of cabernet sauvignon – some of the oldest vine stock in Coonawarra. Max Schubert selected some of these very same revered blocks for his original 1973 Bin 169 Coonawarra Claret.
Today’s Bin 169 offers a modern alternative to Bin 707 and showcases strong regional character. Partial barrel fermentation and maturation in French oak hogsheads ensure the unmistakable Penfolds House Style – a beautifully fragrant and richly concentrated cabernet sauvignon steeped in the heritage of our winemaking traditions.
