Meet Laura, PhD candidate studying the sustainability of alternative varietals.
With a focus on helping create and support pathways to the industry, Penfolds Evermore provided a scholarship to PhD candidate Laura Mezei through the University of Adelaide to research the sustainability of alternate varietals, particularly those that may be beneficial to adapting to climate change.
Over the past three years, Laura has been carrying out her research that she hopes to share with the industry to better understand how alternate varietals may prove more resistant to climate and highlight the current climate threats that look to impact traditional varieties.
We caught up with Laura when she met with Penfolds winemaking and viticulture team members to present her finding to find out more about her studies, what interested her to choose this research area, and hear about how she hopes her research can shape the industry.
Penfolds Evermore is the brands first community and sustainability platform consisting of three strategic priorities, Community and Culture, Future Winemaking, and Towards Sustainability. Creating and supporting pathways into the industry including scholarships, mentor programs, research and innovation, is a key focus of the program to help shape a world where the industry and future generations can thrive.
