Max’s range is a tribute to our first Chief Winemaker, Max Schubert – a trailblazing pioneer for Australian wine.
With five bottles to choose from, there’s a Max to elevate every occasion; from elegant dinner parties to summer BBQs and cosy date nights.
Penfolds Max’s range is vibrant, polished, and charming in character – bringing to life the daring spirit of its namesake.
How better to elevate your everyday?
Penfolds is available in selected retailers across the UK.
While all seafood is a safe option for our Australian's Chards, refined rich dishes work well here. The style acts as a contrasting pairing.
Vegetarian: Margherita pizza... Sounds strange, but the mildness and clean finish of the mozzarella would pair well. Light food styles can also come into play here, however think of the acidity from the wine as a cleanser. Creamy lentil (or pasta) style dishes with mild spices (avoid heat).
'Meat' Option: Crab cakes, or (Scallop) chowder would be an ideal pairing. Away from seafood, poultry will also work. Example: Creamy mustard and tarragon chicken. Anything grilled poultry related, would be a treat. Creamy pasta dishes is an easy everyday pairing.
Australian shiraz is typically much riper than European-style Syrah. The sweetness is a big draw with these pairings, and once you bring the structure of the Cabernet into the blend you can be adventurous. Think big flavours - and spice. The style acts as a congruent pairing.
Vegetarian: Hearty and weighty is an obvious go to with rich styles of Shiraz Cabernet blends, mushroom and pepper sauce risotto. Rich, creamy lentil stews. Cheese... Strong hard cheeses are a no brainer with this style of wine. In some cases, the fruit sweetness from Aussie Shiraz can happily sit with MILD blue (be careful with intensity of Blue).
'Meat' Option: There is a reason why local wines go well with local cuisine, and the stereotype can be true with Australian wine (or Shiraz Cabernet). Grilled, BBQ (sweet, rich sauces) style... Think smoked brisket, slow cooked meats, flamed charred ribs. A far more everyday occasion would be casseroles in winter, hearty and weighty foods. Cab works wonders with lamb and is a widely versatile food pairing grape.
You must go forward. Because if you can't, you must go backwards.
